The Fforest Inn Hotel

The Fforest Inn Hotel is an original
Welsh long house built in the sixteenth
century, although buildings were on
the site in the late 1300’s.
The Fforest Inn Hotel is on the old
drovers route from Mid-Wales to
England. The main bar provided rest
and refreshment, the restaurant was
once the stables, home to pigs and cows and a
smithy was situated at the far end of
the building, for shoeing horses
and cattle.

The Fforest Inn Hotel’s water comes
from its own spring.
It contains no artificial chemicals,
just 100% pure spring water
and healthy minerals.

One reputed regular visitor to
The Fforest Inn Hotel is
Silver John whose story lives on
in local legend. Silver John is said
to haunt the local area including
The Fforest Inn Hotel.

Silver John

Dr John Lloyd, 'Silver John' (c.1740-1814?), was a bone specialist and a member of the Lloyd family,
well known in the counties of Radnor and Hereford for its interest in divination and medicine.
It is believed that 'Silver John', so called because of the silver buttons on his coat, was murdered
by the men of New Radnor who wanted to steal the buttons and other pieces of silver on his clothes which
he had received as payment for his services.
Silver John's death is commemorated in verse, which used to incense the people of New Radnor whenever
they heard it being sung:

Silver John is dead and gone
So they came home a-singing
The Radnor Boys pulled out his eyes
And set the bell a-ringing.
